Several of
Andalucia’s famous white washed villages
are within easy reach, Competa which
sits 650 metres above sea level is
within a 40 minute drive of Nerja and
offers stunning views. The quaint
village centre which oozes with
character is dominated by the 16th
century church and the plaza itself is a
relaxing place to sit and sample the
local wines and tapas. |

To the east of Nerja,
La Herradura, Almunecar and Salobrena
are all relatively untouched by mass
tourism but offer excellent facilities
for the visitor including scuba diving,
all of these resorts are within a short
scenic coastal drive from Nerja. |

Between the
Meditteranean and Granada sits the
mountain range of the Alpujarras and the
Lechrin Valley. |

The scenery is
spectacular and the villages famed in
the book ‘Driving Over Lemons’ are good
stop off points to buy local produce and
handicrafts. |

El Acebuchal is ‘the
lost village’. Just a 10 minute drive
from Frigiliana, it was deserted in the
late 1950’s having been used by the
resistance in the Civil War with the
Spanish Government. In 1998 the
renovation of the village was started
and gradually the village has come back
to life. ‘A picture postcard’ (oh, and
the tapas bar is great for lunch)! |
